DSQ held a safety forum recently at Chinchilla RSL, for our employees, customers and other businesses in the Western Downs Region. Many thanks to our three guest speakers:
- Amanda Edwards from Mates in Construction, who gave us an informative overview of mental health in the construction and mining industries, along with strategies to recognise the early signs of mental health in our work colleagues, friends and family members.
- Glen Cook (Cookie) from Energy Queensland, who gave us a reminder of the dangers of accidental contact with overhead and underground powerlines. Hard to believe that the vast majority of contact is with overhead powerlines. Despite being very visible, we don’t tend to see them, or forget they are there. Cookie helped develop the award winning lookupandlive.com.au powerline mapping app.
- Shane Webcke, NRL legend and Channel 7 sports presenter is also the Worksafe Queensland ambassador. Shane shared a personal story about how his father’s death impacted his family, and offered advice about the importance of staying safe at work and creating a strong safety culture.
We had a large audience who appreciated the messages and advice from each of our guest speakers.
